A proper Norfolk market town, with its twin-towered Abbey, timber-framed streets and fast links to Norwich down the A11 or by rail.
Nine miles south-west of Norwich, Wymondham is the pick of Norfolk’s market towns: historic, self-sufficient and superbly connected. For renters it offers town-centre character or modern estate living, with Norwich close enough to commute and far enough to forget.
The town centre is a delight: the medieval Market Cross, timber-framed shops and cafes, and the great twin towers of Wymondham Abbey rising over the rooftops. Around this core, Wymondham spreads into established residential streets and well-planned newer developments that have made it one of south Norfolk’s most popular places to live.
It is a town that works day to day, with independent shops, supermarkets, doctors, dentists and a leisure centre of its own. You are not reliant on Norwich for anything, which is precisely why so many people happily settle here.
Wymondham has its own railway station with regular services into Norwich in around a quarter of an hour, and onward links towards Cambridge. The A11 dual carriageway passes the town, putting Norwich, Thetford and Cambridge within easy reach, and buses connect the town with the city and surrounding villages.
Schooling is a standout: the town is served by popular primaries, Wymondham High Academy and the renowned Wymondham College nearby. Add the leisure centre, the Abbey meadows and a proper choice of pubs and restaurants, and the town more than earns its reputation as a family favourite.
The rental market mixes characterful cottages and terraces near the town centre with modern family houses on the newer developments. Commuters, families and NHS and hospital staff all compete for the same well-priced stock, so good homes let quickly, and demand has only grown as the A11 corridor has developed.
